About Us

Caribbean Environment Risk Solutions (CARI-ERS) was established as a registered Private Company in Guyana in 2020. CARI-ERS is a Joint Venture of global Small-Medium Enterprises (SME) and Expert Partners, aligned to complement technical proficiencies, skill sets, project experience, and networks, to collectively leverage into an unrivalled competitive advantage.

The Company Head Office is located in Georgetown, Guyana with a subsidiary office located in Paramaribo, Suriname. The company has further regional ties with partners in Suriname and Brazil and a wider reach with established entities in Europe, Southern Africa, South East Asia, and Australasia.

CARI-ERS has an established network of regional and global partners which allows sourcing of both local and international experienced personnel in disciplines required for the completion of small, medium and large projects. This experience is further strengthened by our personnel’s ability to communicate in all regional languages including English, Dutch, French, Portuguese and local dialects.

Environ-mining

Environ-mining (ENM) was established in 2013 in Wales (United Kingdom) as an environmental consultancy to service primarily the mining and oil and gas sectors.  The company’s head office is registered in Cardiff and the operational office is in the Algarve (Portugal).

The company has provided consultancy services in both Central Asia and South America as well as other regions such as Africa.  The focus of the business has been mine closure, environmental assessment and land use mapping projects in Suriname and environmental and social impact assessment of mine developments in Kazakhstan.

ENM specialises in project management, environmental investigations and studies, environmental impact assessment reporting and feasibility studies, mine closure planning and environmental compliance auditing conducted to recognised international standards and industry good practice.

Hydrobiology

Hydrobiology is an environmental consulting company established since 2001 and offering integrated services in the physical, biological and chemical processes of environmental systems with a particular emphasis on the aquatic environment. We have key technical strengths in the areas of risk assessment, impact assessment, hydrology, ecotoxicology, freshwater and marine ecology, river mechanics, water quality, geochemistry and contaminated sediment management. Hydrobiology’s focus is technical excellence and high level scientific expertise delivered within a commercial framework. We are able to provide our clients with the best possible understanding of environmental risk for their environmental and impact management needs.

DIRECTORS

Craig Watt

Craig Watt is the Managing Director and a Principal Environmental Engineer with over 25 years’ experience globally in mining, oil and gas, infrastructure, waste, water and wastewater, contaminated land, and hazardous materials. Craig specialises in business development, management of projects, environmental impact and risk assessments, project closure and rehabilitation, and environmental auditing in accordance with industry good practice.

Dr Ross Smith

Dr Ross Smith has over 30 years’ experience as an aquatic ecologist/ecotoxicologist. Ross has participated in a number of major studies of environmental impacts to aquatic ecosystems in Australia, Melanesia, Southeast Asia, Central and Western Africa, Suriname, Bangladesh and Brazil. He has international stature in the field of the sensitivities of tropical aquatic ecosystems to flows, produced waters, sediments, metals, salts and other contaminants, and passage barriers for perennial and temporary waters and is a leader in the field of the ecotoxicology of chemicals associated with unconventional oil and gas production. He has the ability to explain environmental findings to government, industry and stakeholder groups, including indigenous communities. He was a major contributing author to the recent revision of the Australian and New Zealand water quality guidelines, particularly for the revised water quality management framework, the use of conceptual models, guidance for temporary waters and assessment of toxicant impacts, and was a founding member of the SETAC global interest group for Indigenous Knowledge and Values.

Subhaschand Itwar

Subhaschand is an experienced Business and Technology professional with over 10 years of expertise in various facets of system implementation, maintenance, and administration. He has a broad range of skills across multiple areas including System Administration, server and network infrastructure, hardware and software configuration, as well as consultations. His experience includes both on-premise systems and cloud-based solutions. Subhaschand holds several leading certifications such as CCNP & MCSA with experience in system virtualization. He is a Guyanese national, resident in Georgetown, and represents the local logistics for CARI-ERS.
